About Goldfish Extra

Our website's name has an Extra because, apart from the basics that every goldfish owner should know, we will also have extra information that normal goldfish websites don't have. All information on this website is based on Three Japanese Books about Goldfish, two of which are edited by great experts who only exist in Japan. There are only a handful of goldfish experts in the west, whereas, in Japan, one person in fifty people is likely to be an expert in goldfish. One of them is called Nobuaki Okamoto. He was born in 1951 in the Aichi prefecture. He is now the President of the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. He researches fish illness and fish heredity. He focusses on how to prevent fish from getting ill. He has the nickname 'Doctor of Goldfish' (金魚博士)。He is trying to popularize goldfish.

The other editor is called Yonnosuke Kawada, and he is born in 1952 in Tokyo. He has many positions in various Goldfish groups in Japan, and he has over 40 years of experience with goldfish. He doesn't work in a goldfish making place, but 40 years is a pretty long time. His nickname is 'missionary of goldfish'. Both have written many books on goldfish.

Well, The Editor of The Yukikaze Times first met real fish when he bought some killifish and guppy. He then bought some neon tetra as well. After that experience, in April this year, (2014) he bought three black popeyed goldfish (We call it kuro demekin). He then bought a book on how to care for goldfish. After that, he bought a rare goldfish which had a characteristic fin. However, since the aquarium was too small, two of the black popeyed goldfish died. After that, the one who was able to live was taken to a Pyrex Iwaki Glass bowl, and lived there until recently. The goldfish with a characteristic fin lived on, by himself, in the small aquarium, until it was also removed and put into a 100 yen shop small plastic animal container. They both survived, even though goldfish bowls were said to be quite bad for goldfish, (but of course, you can't have them live in there forever) {There is a way to care for goldfish that is quite famous right now, and that is to care for goldfish in small containers}.

He then bought a Gex Glassterior Slim 600 on Amazon, and some 大磯砂 which are small pebbles that are really heavy and are recommended for Goldfish tanks. These small pebbles are naturally found in rivers, and so you can add a touch of nature in your aquarium. And he bought Large-flowered Waterweed (Brazilian Waterweed).
A few days later he bought a red headed goldfish. They are living
happily in the Glassterior tank. I must say, nowadays a lot of tanks are so small. You have to think carefully when buying a tank as well.

He is not a goldfish expert, however he has read 3 Japanese Goldfish guides, and so, we will all rely on him to write all the pages in this website.

I'm afraid there are no goldfish out in nature anymore. The only place which is close to nature for them is a goldfish pond outside.
What are your thoughts on goldfish? Share them in the comments or in a guest post on The Yukikaze Times.

For goldfish, I think that the most suitable place and the place where there are the most goldfish fans is Japan.

Red and white. Cute caudal fin. Goldfish swimming. Very elegant.
Ever since the Edo period in Japan, goldfish have been a part of Japanese culture. In Summer, the Japanese would look at the goldfish swimming in the bowl and feel nice and cool. They also get them at festivals and stuff. It is a game called goldfish scooping. People pay money and try to get a goldfish by scooping it with a paper net. But real fans don't get goldfish like that. Most of them are weak. Besides, it is only a game, and there aren't any rare or good goldfish there.
There are many types of goldfish, and many goldfish fans. Some enjoy goldfish by keeping it as a pet (a part of the family), others create new goldfish and enter them into a competition (only in Japan). Some people might only have them in the pond outside, and are not particularly interested. (Keeping it as part of the scenery)
This website, Goldfish Extra, will have all the information that you need to live with your goldfish. From people who are thinking of buying goldfish to people who are already experts, there will be something new in this website that you might not already have known about.
I hope that you will be able to read, look and enjoy this website's content.

Thankyou.

The Editor of The Yukikaze Times
